Every time you turn on the TV these days you hear about "HealthCare Reform". EHR Electronic Health Records is one part of HealthCare Reform that is attracting allot of attention.
But what does it mean to the patient ? How does it impact the care you receive as a patient.

It's a double-edged sword. Convenient for the doctor, yes. (just had an appt. where dr. carries a laptop to look up your records, test results, etc. while he's examing you) On the other side, scary as hell... when you stop and think about all your info just "floating" around in cyber-space somehow.
ReplyDeleteYes it is all scary, but then again if you use an ATM card and most of us do, even to go get cash to make a purchase. All of your data stored on that card is flying around the same data lines that everything else is. Encrypted but still there. It was only a matter of time before medical data started its electronic path too.
ReplyDeleteGood comments. Bottom line is cost containment second, vital info when a doctor needs it first. It has only just begun.

ReplyDeleteThe bottom line for me i: it is comforting to know that any doctor that may have to treat me at 3 am for an emergency has an accurate complete list of any meds I may be on and has access to my past medical history.Especially if I am unable to speak for myself or I am so sick I am forgetting things.
That is oneof the best thingsabout this whole thing.
